Magnetism Workshop
March 19th, 2026 The topic of our March workshop was magnetism! Students at Deerwood Elementary used a combination of paperclips and magnets to understand how magnets interact with magnetic objects and test how magnet strength, distance, and interfering materials affected that interaction. The students did a great job of using the engineering design process to come up with a plan to answer these questions with the materials they had! This workshop was done in collaboration w

CIrcuits Workshop
February 26, 2026 This past February, our Community Outreach team organized a visit to Deerwood Elementary to conduct a circuits workshop with 5th grade students. The workshop focused on using model simple circuits to help students visualize open and closed circuits, and test whether objects in the circuit were conductors or insulators. Volunteers first used an Enegy Stick to demonstrate the difference between open and closed circuits by linking hards, creating a “human circu
